A Greensburg man who held up the Walmart in Hempfield earlier this year pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to serve 22-to-44 months in state prison.

Christopher J. Hilty, 31, appeared before Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio Wednesday and pleaded guilty to one count of robbery.

Bilik-DeFazio also ordered Hilty to pay $3,350 restitution to the store.

Hilty surrendered to state troopers a day after the Jan. 31 holdup after investigators released surveillance video of him to the media.

Hilty admitted entering the Walmart at Greengate Circle along Route 30 the evening of Jan, 31, going to the customer service area and threatening a clerk with a handgun. He took an undetermined amount of money from the register, according to troopers.

Hilty fled the store through the parking lot toward Route 30.

Troopers later said that Hilty told them he robbed the store to pay gambling debts.
