Greensburg man sentenced to jail for decades-old sex crimes against children
A Greensburg man was ordered to serve nearly one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to charges that he sexually assaulted two young girls two decades earlier at multiple locations around Westmoreland County.
Morton William Thomson Jr., 66, was charged in December 2022, more than 20 years after his accusers claimed they were victims of sex crimes committed over years and started when one child was 7 and other was 6.
One of the accusers, now an adult, told state police the assaults occurred between 1996 until 2002 when she was 12.
In that case, Thomson pleaded guilty to felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault. Prosecutors dismissed charges of rape, indecent assault against a child and child endangerment.
A second woman claimed she was assaulted by Thomson in 1999 when she was 6. He pleaded guilty to both counts he faced: indecent assault and child endangerment.
Thomson had been free on a recognizance bond since his arrest.
Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Scott Mears on Monday imposed terms of a negotiated plea bargain that called for Thomson to serve one year, less a day, to two years less a day in the county jail, along with three years of probation.
