Gavel, a small mallet used by the presiding officer of a meeting, a judge, etc., usually to signal for attention or order in a courtroom.

A Greensburg man was ordered to serve up to 10 years in prison for the rape of a child in 2007.

Jared Christopher Painter, 35, pleaded guilty in January to two felony counts of rape and charges of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and sexual assault.

According to court records, North Huntingdon police said the accuser was in his mid 20s when he came to them in October 2021 to report allegations that Painter sexually assaulted him when he was 6 to 8 years old. Police said Painter would have been 14 to 16 years old at the time.

Painter is accused of sexually assaulting the boy at least two times, on one occasion in exchange for Pokemon cards, police said. Police said that during an interrogation of Painter in June 2022 he admitted to some details of the sexual assaults made by his accuser.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio sentenced Painter, who has been in jail since his arrest in July 2022, to serve 5-to-10 years in prison and an additional three years on probation.
