The popular Greensburg Night Market has taken on an added glow.

A new string of LED lights zigzags overhead, providing extra ambience for shoppers as they check out the vendor booths along Pennsylvania Avenue between Pittsburgh and Second streets.

It’s one of four blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue that are closed to vehicular traffic for the monthly Thursday evening market that features a selection of food options and musical entertainment.

City Cribs and RSVP Gifts and More have collaborated with Amp Pro Electric, the Downtown Greensburg Project and the Greensburg Night Market on the lighting project.

The lights are strung on sturdy airplane cable to withstand winds and have been placed at a sufficient height to allow clearance for firefighting equipment.

“Their purpose is not to light up the street but for aesthetics — to give visual attention to that block of businesses,” according to Suzanne Ward, owner of RSVP Gifts and More and a partner in City Cribs offshoot City Cribs 2 with her husband, Michael.

City Cribs 2 also is sponsoring a mural on a wall of the former Art-Tech building it is redeveloping. The mural, created by North Huntingdon artist Cody Sabol, is enhancing a parklet next to the building. Both properties are owned by City Cribs 2.
