Greensburg is getting on board with a new way to keep its residents informed.

Council this week approved working with Savvy Citizen, a comprehensive mass notification system. Once it is in place, residents can sign up to receive notifications from the city.

Administrator Kelsye Milliron said there likely will be a team of employees who are involved in sending out the notifications, which can range from weather and events to emergencies and government happenings.

The quote received by Greensburg indicated the annual base cost would be $3,800.

Councilman Randy Finfrock spearheaded setting the city up with Pittsburgh-based Management Science Associates, Inc. that runs Savvy Citizen. They will create a marketing plan to get the word out once the partnership is finalized, he said.

Finfrock hopes to get several hundred residents signed up. Other communities around the area already use the service.

“If we can get 800 out of it, take that and run,” he said.
