Greensburg police accuse Latrobe man of bilking couple out of $2,000

Greensburg police have obtained an arrest warrant for a Latrobe man who allegedly accepted $2,000 as partial payment for a roof repair project that was never started.

Sean L. Hurley, 34, is charged with one count of home improvement fraud and theft by deception.

Frank and Kelly Kern of Bella Street reported Hurley accepted money for construction supplies to complete repairs to their home Oct. 22, city Detective Charles Irvin said in court documents.

The Kerns were familiar with Hurley after he assisted them with removing a tree from their yard earlier in the year, Irvin reported. However, after repeated delays on the roof project, the Kerns asked Hurley to return their down payment.

At the time of the agreement, Hurley asked to be paid in cash because he did not have a bank account in order to cash a check, the Kerns told police. The Kerns provided police with an invoice signed by Hurley confirming he received the down payment.

Hurley is described as a white male about six feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. Police said Hurley’s last known address was on B Street in Latrobe.
