Greensburg police are looking for a man accused of smashing the window of a vehicle parked Sunday at Lynch Field and taking a purse.
A woman reported the incident just before 2 p.m. outside The Aerobic Center, according to Capt. Shawn Denning. A center manager told investigators that the suspect’s GMC Terrain was spotted driving around the lot earlier in the day. The SUV may have had a Massachusetts license plate, Denning said.
Surveillance footage shows the SUV driver park near the victim’s vehicle and break the passenger side window. Denning said the man attempted to cover the SUV’s license plate with a towel before fleeing.
The suspect was described as a Black man standing about 6 feet tall and wearing a light colored camouflage jacket or sweatshirt. Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying him. Denning said Monday police believe the SUV may have been a rental. There were no charges filed.
He encouraged drivers to conceal valuables in parked vehicles. That will make it harder for someone who is “window shopping” to locate a target, he said. Valuables can be put in the glove box, trunk or hidden underneath an article of clothing.
“Anything to make it more inconvenient to be a victim of theft,” he said.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity is asked to call police at 724-834-3800.
