Greensburg will be without a planning director for another month.

Hiring a new planning director was on the agenda for Monday’s council meeting, but officials opted to take more time to consider their options.

City Administrator Kelsye Milliron said the city is not accepting new applications.

“We have a pool of candidates, we’re just making sure we have the right one for the city,” she said.

In the meantime, Mayor Robert Bell is handling many of the planning department’s day-to-day responsibilities.

“I’m sort of the interim director of code enforcement at this time,” he said in response to a resident who came to Monday’s meeting with code enforcement questions.

The city has not disclosed the names nor the number of candidates.

City council in February unanimously voted to fire previous planning Director Barbara Ciampini for undisclosed reasons.

Ciampini, who was paid $73,500 a year, had worked for the city for 35 years.

The search for Ciampini’s replacement began soon after, with applications accepted through March 22.

According to the job description, the city is looking for someone with a thorough knowledge of planning and zoning principles and city codes.

Recreation coordinators

Council hired two new part-time recreation officials Monday.

Baseball coordinator Josh Volk and soccer coordinator John Lynch will make $1,000 each for organizing the city’s sports programs for the spring season.
