Greensburg Salem approves $68K contract to upgrade sound systems in high school gym, auditorium
Greensburg Salem will spend nearly $68,000 to upgrade sound systems in the high school gym and auditorium.
The current systems are antiquated and unreliable, Superintendent Ken Bissell said.
“There are times where kids onstage are singing or saying their lines and it cuts out,” Bissell said of the auditorium system. “It kind of diminishes (the performance). It’s in need of being replaced.
“The high school gymnasium, similarly, it’s a very, very old system,” he said. “You can’t even plug a USB into it. It runs just off a CD player.”
The school board voted unanimously Monday evening to contract Scottdale-based Good Sounds to supply and install both sound systems.
Equipment and installation for the gym sound system will cost around $9,800. It will be paid for by the district’s Athletic Sponsorship Fund — started by the district about three years ago to raise money for athletic programs and facilities.
Community members and local businesses have supported the fund, which has a donation table set up during athletic events.
“We’re very grateful for all of our donors out there that have given to all of our athletic programs,” Bissell said.
The fund has also supported purchasing a new sound system and bleacher wraps for Offutt Field, he said.
The upgraded auditorium sound system and installation will cost nearly $57,900. The district’s capital improvements fund will cover the cost, but Bissell is seeking donations to offset expenses.
Anyone who is interested in donating can email kayla.tamer@gslions.net to reach Kayla Tamer, the district’s community outreach coordinator.
The school board also held its reorganization meeting Monday, reappointing Jeff Metrosky to board president in a 9-0 vote and Robin Savage to vice president in a 6-3 vote. Members Lynn Jobe, Emily Miller and Kacey Byrne-Houser voted against Savage’s appointment.
