Greensburg Salem School District is looking to get students more engaged in learning as they returned to the classroom Tuesday for the fall semester.
District Superintendent Ken Bissell said in a letter posted on the Greensburg Salem website that staff have been “busy all summer preparing for engagement in teaching and learning this fall.
“We cannot wait to continue our work to see every child succeed in developing their skills, knowledge and understanding for building their character, leadership, scholarship and service in our community.”
According to Bissell, the district plans to have children spend more time in the school library, where they can work on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) projects while having access to literature.
The district has 183 incoming kindergarten students enrolled among its three elementary schools — Nicely, Hutchinson and Metzgar. That number is down from last fall’s 223 kindergarten students, but is still more than the 158 who began school at Greensburg Salem in the fall of 2020.
