Greensburg Salem School District has postponed its graduation ceremony until June — though plans for the big day are subject to change depending on the status of coronavirus-related restrictions.

The district also plans to replace prom with a Senior Ceremony.

The current plan is to allow only the Class of 2020 and their immediate family to attend commencement. It’s scheduled for 6:45 p.m. June 19 at Offutt Field.

More people might be allowed if social distancing restrictions are lifted — but such a change might also require rescheduling the event, according to the district.

Any changes will be announced by building principals.

Commencement was originally scheduled for May 28.

The Senior Ceremony will be free for students. It will be held at Rizzo’s Malabar Inn in Crabtree from 4-10 p.m. June 18, and will be open only to seniors — no family members allowed pending changes to social distancing restrictions.

“Even though many of us are forced to stay at home and keep distant at this time, we want to support and recognize the many accomplishments of our graduates,” Superintendent Gary Peiffer said in a statement.
