Greensburg Salem Middle School students were scheduled to return to the school for in-person instruction on Friday, for the first time since a water break closed the building on Monday.

District officials had been waiting on results from air quality testing before having students return to the school.

“Air quality testing from certified industrial hygienists showed nothing detectable of harm,” district Superintendent Ken Bissell announced on the school website. “The areas needing restoration have been sealed off from staff and student traffic, and classrooms have been relocated.

“The majority of the damage is displacing the central office administrative team.”

Bissell earlier said water damage was contained to the first floor of the administration wing of the building and two second-floor classrooms above the administrative offices.

The water break involved a problem with a water fountain on the school’s second floor, according to Tom Bell, Greensburg fire chief and public works director.
