Greensburg Salem School District welcomed a familiar face as its newest board member.

Lynn Jobe, the district’s former athletic director, was appointed to fill the remainder of former board member Rachel Shaw’s term. Shaw announced her resignation in January, after accepting a government job that prevented her from holding elected office.

Jobe retired as athletic director in 2018, after a 35-year career with the district.

She said she couldn’t stay away for long.

“I think it’s kind of part of me,” she said. “I think I can make a positive contribution.”

She said her focus as a board member will always be on education and students, while keeping in mind the board’s duty of fiscal responsibility.

“That’s why we’re here, that’s what we do, and that’s in the forefront of my mind,” she said.

Wednesday was her first regular board meeting. She was appointed at a special meeting last week.

There were five applications for the seat. The board appointed Jobe with a 7-1 vote, with member Jeff Metrosky instead voting for applicant Candace Indoff.

“All five were very qualified candidates,” board President Ron Mellinger.

He praised Jobe’s commitment to the district.

“She’s lived here all her life, worked in the district all of her professional career,” he said. “I think she’ll be a welcome addition.”

Jobe will serve the rest of Shaw’s term, until the end of 2021.
