The Greensburg Salem School Board will be looking for a new member soon.

Rachel Shaw announced her resignation this week. She was elected in 2017.

Shaw took a job as mediator with the state’s Department of Labor, which prevents her from holding elected office.

“I enjoyed my time on the board, and I’m sad to leave, but I’m really excited to begin this new journey,” she said in an email.

She also resigned from her position as chairwoman of the Westmoreland County Democratic Committee.

Greensburg Salem School Board President Ron Mellinger said Shaw was a valued member on the board, and was instrumental in the recent negotiation of teacher contracts.

“She was a great board member, very intelligent,” he said.

The board will follow its usual procedure for replacing members who leave mid-term, Mellinger said. It is expected to accept Shaw’s resignation at its Feb. 12 meeting, at which point the search will begin. It will interview candidates and likely make its choice at the March meeting.

Those interested in serving should send a letter of interest and a resume to the district.

The appointee will serve the rest of Shaw’s term, until the end of 2021.
