Greensburg seeks bubble gum lovers for shot at world record
Hundreds of bubble gum blowers are needed in Greensburg in an effort to break a world record.
The Greensburg Business & Professional Association is hoping to get at least 1,200 people to converge Saturday on downtown in an attempt to top the record for the most people blowing a chewing gum bubble simultaneously, said president Amy Beeghly. The record stands at 881.
Extra participants are needed in the event someone isn’t able to inflate the Dubble Bubble gum they’ll be provided.
“We’d love to make history for Greensburg,” she said.
The world record attempt will take place at noon during the association’s annual Summer in the City event. Part of South Pennsylvania Avenue will be shut down for festivities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., some of which will be held in the Moore/Becker parking lot.
Participants will be attempting to break the record previously set in July 2018 in New Jersey, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. With the hundreds of participants, the association also needs plenty of volunteers to help document the attempt to get it confirmed, Beeghly said. One volunteer marshal will be needed for every 50 people to record a 30-second video of the action.
The Greensburg Fire Department will play an integral role in the world record attempt. Dubble Bubble blowers will start when they hear a fire whistle and end when the siren is sounded.
Anyone who wants to participate in the bubble blowing can preregister online, but blowers also can signup the day of the event. Volunteers can sign up online, too.

Parking will be free at the Bell Garage and a free shuttle will run from Lynch Field to South Pennsylvania Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Beeghly said. Summer in the City will kick off with a pet parade at 10 a.m. starting at Petagogy on East Pittsburgh Street. Other activities on South Pennsylvania Avenue and in the Moore/Becker parking lot will include games, performances, live music, food vendors, live animals and fire truck demonstrations.
