A Greensburg woman is accused of assaulting and seriously injuring a 3-week-old child, according to police.

Destiny M. Pratt, 24, is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison without bond on aggravated assault and child endangerment charges.

Greensburg police reported that they received a ChildLine report last month that detailed the infant’s injuries, including a tear in the tissue that connects the upper lip to the upper jaw, a broken blood vessel in the eye and mouth, and lip, face and nose injuries, according to court papers. Investigators said medical records showed that the child had not been gaining weight as expected since being born in December.

During a Jan. 13 visit with a pediatrician, the child was transferred to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where the injuries were diagnosed, according to court papers.

Police said Pratt could not offer an explanation for the injuries. The child has been placed in foster care, police said.

Pratt was denied bail at her arraignment Tuesday because District Judge Chris Flanigan determined she is a flight risk and danger to the community, according to online court records.

Court records did not list an attorney for Pratt. A Feb. 20 preliminary hearing is set.
