Greensburg YMCA appoints new interim director

When the Greensburg YMCA reopens, it will do so under new leadership.

The Y’s board of directors appointed Suzanne Printz as interim CEO, replacing George O’Brien, who served in the position for eight years.

It’s a difficult time to take over, Printz said. The Y is closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Supervisors are working from home, a “skeleton crew” of maintenance staff is working in the Maple Avenue building, and most of the remaining staff has been furloughed, according to Printz.

“It’s exciting to take on something new, but yes, during covid-19 with us being shut down, it adds some challenges,” she said.

She’s been with the Greensburg Y since 2014, most recently as director of member and community relations.

The board is planning a search for a permanent director, but the pandemic will likely slow that process, according to board president Keith Biskup.

“It will be as soon as possible, but right now we’re dealing with the current situation we’re in,” he said.

Printz said it’s too early to know if she’ll apply for the permanent position.

“I think this is a good opportunity for them to see what I can do and for me to see if this is a good fit,” she said. “We’re just concentrating right now on getting us through this interim time.”

Biskup declined to comment on the circumstances of O’Brien’s departure, describing it only as a “separation.”

O’Brien also declined to comment, except to say that he still supports the YMCA’s mission.

“(My family and I) are still big believers in the Y, I’m just no longer working there,” he said.
