The Greensburg YMCA and The Meadows Frozen Custard have teamed up to raise money for youth programs.

The frozen custard shop will donate 35 percent of the proceeds collected from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at its Greensburg location at 660 Mt. Pleasant St. to the YMCA.

The money supports the YMCA’s youth programs through the organization’s annual fundraising campaign.

Fundraising will be a top priority for the Greensburg YMCA as it prepares for a major renovation of its 106-year-old building on Maple Avenue. The extensive multi-phase renovation is expected to cost about $2 million.

It will renovate locker rooms and add a new family changing room. The first floor will be rearranged, making room for a larger lobby. There will be a new group exercise room and a larger child watch section.

Work will be done in phases. The first phase is renovating the women’s locker room, which has been closed more than a year due to mechanical problems. Women have been using the separate girl’s locker room.

YMCA officials plan to launch a major fundraising campaign in late summer or early fall to begin raising money for the work.
