After being canceled last year due to the covid-19 pandemic, SummerSounds — the popular Greensburg concert series — is set to return in August.

Bands will once again take the stage at the Robertshaw Amphitheater in St. Clair Park beginning Aug. 6, according to an updated schedule on the event’s website.

“Get vaccinated and stay tuned for updates,” the site reads.

A decision on whether the concert series would return this year remained largely unclear. The board of directors canceled the series last year when event organizers found there was no way to maintain social distancing among the several thousand people who typically attend the free series. It normally takes place from June into August.

This summer, however, several covid-related restrictions will likely be lifted by the time the series begins. Gov. Tom Wolf on Memorial Day lifted all covid-related restrictions on capacities of restaurants and outdoor gatherings. The state’s mask mandate is also expected to be lifted by June 28 or when 70% of residents are fully vaccinated.

Given those changes, board members in May suggested SummerSounds could make a return this year, but a decision had not yet been made. At the time, Gene James, founder and board president of the nonprofit, said the city was on board with the series returning this year. However, he noted it would not be possible to resume concerts in June or July.

Still, James added that given the cancellation of several area concerts last year, it likely would not be a problem finding acts to perform at SummerSounds.

Here are the acts scheduled to perform this year:

• Aug. 6 — The Steepwater Band

• Aug. 13 — Shaun Martin & Band

• Aug. 20 — Teddy Thompson & Jenni Muldaur

• Aug. 27 — John Papa Gros

• Sept. 3 — Toronzo Cannon

• Sept. 10 — Laurel Canyon

• Sept. 17 — The Claudettes

• Sept. 24 — Sideline

• Oct. 1 — Green River

Main acts begin their performances at 7 p.m. Pre-show performances run from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
