Attendees participate in a line dance during a MiniTHON to raise money for children with cancer at Hempfield High School on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Nearly 260 of Hempfield Area School District’s juniors and seniors participated in a 12-hour, no-sitting Mini-THON Friday, a high school version of the popular Penn State THON fundraiser.

This is the third year that the local district has held a fundraiser for Four Diamonds, the charity at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital that supports pediatric cancer patients and families.

This year’s Hempfield Mini-THON featured hair donations, a talent show, dodgeball, live music and guest speakers sharing their pediatric cancer story. Local businesses including Denunzio’s and 814 Lanes & Games donated food for the students.

The district’s teachers helped to chaperone the event and participated in a “stall day” fundraiser this week, when classes were delayed until teachers finished counting student donations.
