Hempfield will stick with the same garbage collector in 2026 after township supervisors approved a one-year contract extension that comes with a 3% price increase.
After 2026, the board will have the option for two more one-year contract extensions with additional 3% increases or seek bids from other haulers, said township manager Aaron Siko.
Supervisors discussed in June extending the contract with County Hauling, a Noble Environmental company. They decided that would be the cheapest option after surveying prices in a number of municipalities around the region.
County Hauling began collecting trash in Hempfield in 2021 after the township switched providers from Advanced Disposal for a better price than what Advanced Disposal was offering under a contract extension. Residential rates still went up then by almost $10 per quarter.
Residents currently pay a base rate of $60.66 quarterly, or $242.64 per year. The 3% increase would make that amount $62.48 quarterly, or $249.92 annually.
