A Hempfield home was destroyed in a fire Sunday night and two firefighters were hurt, according to Township Fire Chief Anthony Kovacic.

The blaze was reported on Farmington Place just before 8 p.m. When firefighters got there, flames were shooting through the roof and attempts to get inside with a hose were rebuffed by the fire, he said.

No one was home at the time.

“It was burning for a period of time before we were notified,” he said.

Two firefighters were hospitalized for heat-related injuries, neither of which were considered to be life-threatening. A state police fire marshal was at the scene Monday morning. The cause of the blaze had not been determined, Kovacic said.
