State Sen. Kim Ward, a Hempfield Republican, is set to speak during the 2021 Pennsylvania March for Life Monday in Harrisburg.

The event will be the state’s first official March for Life during which participants plan to rally at the state Capitol building to bring attention to protections for unborn children. It will be hosted by March for Life and the Pennsylvania Family Institute.

Ward, who is Senate majority leader, will be joined in the rally by a few other lawmakers as well as leaders of pro-life advocacy groups.

The rally will begin at 11 a.m. with speakers on the front steps of the Capitol building. A march around the building will commence at noon. Several buses to the event are leaving from locations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.

The first March for Life was held in Washington, D.C. in January 1974 in response to a landmark Supreme Court decision that struck down federal and state abortion laws. State marches also are held in Virginia and California.
