Hempfield officials are slated to host their first blood drive next week with the American Red Cross.

Located at the Hempfield Township Athletic Complex, 220 Forbes Trail Road, the event Friday, March 6, will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Those interested can preregister at the American Red Cross website, redcrossblood.org.

A second blood drive with the American Red Cross already is scheduled for May 21 at the athletic complex. Preregistration can again be found on the American Red Cross website.

Those attending will have the option of two different donations — blood and power red. A typical blood donation means about a pint of blood is taken. The process takes about an hour to complete.

A power red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor, according to the American Red Cross. Donors must meet eligibility requirements and have type A Negative, B Negative or O blood.

Questions about the event can be directed to the township at 724-834-7232.
