Arts and heritage festival

Running all weekend, the 50th year of the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival will feature activities for everyone.

Held at Twin Lakes Park, east of Greensburg, the festival will include an artist market with hundreds of vendors, live music, other artist performances, and tons of food options to enjoy. Attendees also can check out the Westmoreland Art Nationals juried art and photography exhibit.

The event is free and open to the public each day this weekend. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Summer Sparklers

Enjoy some outdoor classical music with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s “Summer Sparklers” program. This Saturday at 7 p.m., they will play a variety of popular tunes, from patriotic and movie music to their finale, the 1812 Overture.

The performance will be held at St. Clair Park in Greensburg and is free and open to all. Bringing chairs and blankets is encouraged.

Donations will be accepted. Learn more at westmorelandsymphony.org.

Revolutionary War tent replicas at Fort Ligonier

Right around Independence Day is a great time to learn the history of the Revolutionary War. Fort Ligonier will be displaying replicas of war tents used by George Washington this Friday and Saturday.

The tents are traveling as part of an exhibit from the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. The exhibit is part of admission to Fort Ligonier, and the tents will be on display from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Carpenters tribute at the Lamp

Wind the clock back to the 1970s with a tribute to classic duo The Carpenters. Recapture the unforgettable voice of Karen Carpenter with songs like “Close to You,” “We’ve Only Just Begun” and more.

This show will take place at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St. in Irwin, and will start at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $49 at lamptheatre.org.

Foo Fighters tribute

If you missed last weekend’s Foo Fighters tribute at the Lamp Theatre — or just can’t get enough Dave Grohl — this is the perfect SummerSounds weekend for you. This Friday night at St. Clair Park, Back & Forth will rock the park with songs like “Learn to Fly,” “My Hero” and “Monkey Wrench.”

SummerSounds is free, and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. This week’s pre-show music will be provided by Josh Jams and will begin at 6:15 p.m.
