Whew, it’s been a hot week. Hopefully this weekend will be a better time to explore the outdoors and enjoy some of these events. With so many great options, it’s worth the sweat.

August Fun Fest

Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver is the site of this year’s August Fun Fest, a full Sunday of activities, music, food and summer fun from Westmoreland County Parks.

Throughout the day, musicians will perform at the amphitheater and Pavilion No. 1. Food vendors will be set up around the park, and there will be an arts and crafts marketplace with more than 40 vendors. All-day $5 activity passes will be available for purchase, and they’ll provide access to a range of rides, as well as a petting zoo.

Other attractions include a car cruise, an Exotic Adventures rescued animals show, bingo and displays from the Mid-Mon Valley Model Railroad Club and Mon Valley R/C Model Airplane.

Make sure to bring cash. The festival will take place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the park, 453 Evergreen Drive. To learn more, visit westmorelandcountypa.gov.

Steelers Friday Night Lights

Get a glimpse of Black and Gold at this Steelers event on Friday night. It’s training camp time, and this is the annual night when fans get to watch players practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.

Make sure to come earlier in the day for Steelers Fest to enjoy a variety of fun activities and the chance to get autographs from legendary Steelers.

There will be fireworks after the Friday Night Lights practice. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the stadium, 1303 Memorial Drive. Tickets are $10 each at steelers.com.

Bushy Run Battlefield reenactment

In August 1763, the two-day Battle of Bushy Run was a clash between British and Native Americans during Pontiac’s War. On Saturday and Sunday, the battlefield in Penn Township will host a large-scale demonstration.

Not only will attendees get to learn about the circumstances leading up to this battle, they also get to experience a slice of life from the 18th century for European and Native American people. Guests will experience the battle, as well as military camps, a Native American village, a children’s area, a concession stand and more.

Events will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday at the battlefield, 1253 Bushy Run Road. To learn more, visit bushyrunbattlefield.com.

SummerSounds

There are only five installments of this year’s SummerSounds free concert series remaining, so make sure you check it out while you have the chance. This week’s act is the epitome of summer — Suns of Beaches!

The Jimmy Buffett tribute band will be bringing island vibes and good times to St. Clair Park on Friday night. They’ll perform some of your Buffett favorites, heavy on the steel drums.

Preshow music by Josh Jams will begin at 6:15 p.m. Friday, and Suns of Beaches will start at 7 p.m. at St. Clair Park, 135 N. Maple Ave., Greensburg. To learn more, visit summersounds.com.

Live Casino car cruise

Motor over to Live Casino Pittsburgh in Hempfield and enjoy this car cruise Sunday. Come as a spectator or bring your wheels to show off. It’s $10 registration for cars, trucks and motorcycles upon entry.

For those who don’t want to drive but want to appreciate all of the nifty vehicles, entry is free and open to all ages. Food trucks including Johnny’s Seafood Shack, The Roaming Bean and Firehouse Subs will dish out tasty treats for sale.

The car cruise will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the casino, 5260 Route 30. Learn more at pittsburgh.livecasinohotel.com.
