Banana split celebration
The banana split was invented in Latrobe, and after 120 years it is still a major part of Americana. This weekend, the Great American Banana Split Celebration will offer a whole sundae’s worth of activities, events, food vendors and more.
Check out the banana baking contest, the 5K Banana Run, the climbing wall, a car show, live entertainment, arts and crafts and much, much more.
Events and activities are happening all weekend throughout downtown Latrobe. Check out a map and schedule, plus lots more information about vendors and activities, at bananasplitfest.com.
Greensburg Music Fest
The Westmoreland Cultural Trust is taking advantage of one of these last beautiful summer Saturdays to present the Greensburg Music Fest throughout downtown Greensburg. The event will run from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The event is free to attend and will have five stages of live music entertainment in three different locations. There will also be a number of vendors available, and food trucks including The BBQ Buggy, Let’s Go Tacos and Honey Bubble Tea.

Fiddler on the Roof

There will be performances at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Monarchs, milkweed and more
This Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., learn about and appreciate the beauty of the striking monarch butterfly in an event at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier.
The event will include a lecture about “Mysterious Moths,” live art creation inspired by the gardens, a variety of organizations to educate attendees about pollinators, and a monarch wishing tree. The finalists of the Penguin Court Pennsylvania Pollinator Photo Challenge will be on hand and awards will be bestowed throughout the event.
The museum can be found on Boucher Lane in Ligonier Township. A suggested $10 donation for the event will go to maintaining the gardens and protecting pollinators. Visit sama-art.org for more.
