Here are 5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: Aug. 29-Sept. 1
You think summer’s over? Not yet! Even if Labor Day is the unofficial end of the season, there’s still a whole weekend to enjoy the warmth and summer vibes. Here are a few suggestions:
Bon Journey at Hempfield Park
Cap off the Hempfield Park summer concerts with a bang this Saturday night with double tribute band Bon Journey. This is the last of this year’s free concerts at the Smail Auto Group Amphitheatre in Hempfield Park, 220 Forbes Trail Road.
Bon Journey, which has been together almost 20 years, is a tribute to both Bon Jovi and Journey. As a staple of the Southwestern Pennsylvania music scene, they’ve brought the legendary songs of these two rock bands to many venues throughout the region. From “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” to “Livin’ on a Prayer,” Bon Journey will keep summer going a little longer with 1980s classics.
The show will start at 7 p.m. Food trucks and concessions will be available, but feel free to bring a picnic. Learn more about this free concert at hempfieldtwp.com.
Arts and Crafts Labor Day Festival
Even if you’re trying to avoid thinking about autumn, the fall months are a great time for crafting and decorating. Get some inspiration at the Arts and Crafts Labor Day Festival, which will be held this weekend at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds. With more than 200 exhibits, both indoors and outdoors, there will be a wide variety of items and projects to peruse.
Do you need to decorate for the season? Get a special new outfit? Want some new soap or a scented candle to make your home cozy? There will be something here for you. And if you get hungry, sample from both prepackaged food vendors and concessions including festival fare such as Italian sausage, hoagies, fries, homemade meatballs and more.
There will also be live music and kids’ activities. Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $3.50 for children ages 12-15 and free for those younger than 12. The festival will be open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more at familyfestivals.com. The fairgrounds is at 123 Blue Ribbon Lane in Mt. Pleasant Township.
SummerSounds
This is it — the last week of the SummerSounds summer concert series for 2025. Don’t miss this last chance to head to St. Clair Park in Greensburg and enjoy some free music as the sun sets.
The last artist for this year is The Kentucky Gentlemen, who will take you into the future of country music. These musicians combine traditional country with multiple genres to give audiences the best of all worlds. They’re the definition of “up and coming,” so don’t miss this chance to see them for free before they’re superstars.
Preshow music by MSJR will start at 6:15 p.m. Friday, and the Kentucky Gentlemen will come on at 7. The park is at 135 N. Maple Ave. Learn more about the band at summer sounds.com.
Labor United Celebration
Celebrate Labor Day at this two-day festival at Northmoreland Park. This is a weekend filled with everything you could want in a community celebration. From bingo to animal shows to live musical performances to a flea market with more than 80 vendors, there’s something for everyone.
There will be rides, activities, inflatables and more, and you get access with a $5 all-day activity pass. The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday in Northmoreland Park, 280 Markle Road, Allegheny Township. Learn more at westmorelandcountypa.gov.
Ambrosia at the Lamp Theatre
Get a blast from the past with this ’70s progressive rock band’s show Saturday at the Lamp Theatre in Irwin. Ambrosia maintains most of its original members, and they’re still kicking.
In the 1970s, Ambrosia had five hit singles, including “How Much I Feel” and “Holdin’ on to Yesterday,” and were nominated for five Grammy Awards. Don’t miss this complex, fascinating and nostalgic show.
The concert will be at 8 p.m. at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $59. Learn more and get tickets at lamptheatre.org.
