5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: July 25-27
Welcome to the weekend. There are plenty of fun things to do around Westmoreland County.
From grain to glass
Whiskey lovers will be entranced by this informational experience. Explore whiskey artifacts of the past and the grain that will make this delicious spirit in the future — all in one event.
Stroll through the gallery at West Overton to see the largest collection of Pennsylvania whiskey artifacts while tasting whiskey from the Keystone Rye Collection. Then, take a trip outdoors to the rye fields to learn about the growth, harvest and processing of this distilled grain. Then, head to the distillery to see the process that will end with Pennsylvania whiskey.
The program will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at West Overton Village, 109 W. Overton Road, East Huntingdon. Tickets are $30 for nonmembers and $25 for members. Participants must be age 21 or older with valid identification. Learn more at westovertonvillage.org.
Vandergrift ArtsFest
This year’s Vandergrift ArtsFest will be an absolute fairy tale — a Grimm fairy tale, even. The one-day celebration of art, music, food and community will take place Sunday.
From noon to 9 p.m., rummage through more than 100 artisans in the vendor market, pick up mouthwatering food from more than 20 food vendors and bop to a lineup of 15 live music acts. It will also hold its traditional juried art show, so make sure to check out the works and vote for your favorites. Also feel free to participate in the scavenger hunt.
The festival will take place in downtown Vandergrift. Learn more at vandergrift artfest.com.
Led Zeppelin tribute
This long-awaited duo of tribute shows will please classic rock fans young and old. Get the Led Out will thunder their way through songs from Led Zeppelin’s catalogue in these rescheduled shows.
You’ll hear some of the hits, but this is an act for fans who love the deep cuts. They also like to focus on Led Zeppelin’s earlier years, so you’ll get something with this band that you may not get from other Zeppelin tributes. They pay special attention to the musicianship of Zep’s tunes and strive to deliver a nuanced and authentic experience.
Shows will be held at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Tickets range from $30 to $72. Get yours at westmoreland culturaltrust.org.
