With Independence Day falling on a Friday, there’s no reason not to carry the celebration all through the weekend. Here are some events around Westmoreland to keep you in a party mood.

Summer Sparklers concert

Always a favorite, this annual Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra summer concert returns to Greensburg’s St. Clair Park on Saturday night. The evening will kick off with an “instrument petting zoo” for the kids, and then the orchestra will warm up and play some classical favorites.

The program will include popular favorites from famous composers and movies, closing with Tchaikovsky’s bombastic “1812 Overture.” Bring a blanket or chairs for more comfortable seating in the park, 135 S. Maple Ave..

The concert is free and starts at 7 p.m. Saturday. Learn more at westmorelandsymphony.org.

Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival

The annual festival will continue all weekend, so make sure not to miss it. The festival showcases all forms of art, from visual art to music to poetry and more.

On site will be an artist vendor market where creators will sell their work. Live entertainment and music performances running the gamut from modern to traditional to classical will take place throughout the weekend. A juried art show will also be held. Make sure to bring the whole family for children’s activities, and concessions and food trucks will be available.

The festival at Twin Lakes Park, east of Greensburg, is free and open to the public. For maps, performance times and more information, visit artsandheritage.com.

Fourth of July at Historic Hanna’s Town

Take the opportunity this Independence Day to celebrate American history at Historic Hanna’s Town. The educational center will offer free admission on Friday, as well as readings of the Declaration of Independence to be held at 1 and 3 p.m. for a special reflection on the day’s importance.

This year is extra special, as Historic Hanna’s Town celebrates the signing of the Hanna’s Resolves, a precursor to the Declaration of Independence and part of our regional and national history. Head to 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield, as Hanna’s Town will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Learn more at westmorelandhistory.org.

History Alive at Fort Ligonier

Delve even deeper into local history with this Saturday and Sunday program at Fort Ligonier. While taking in the sights of the fort, 200 S. Market St., Ligonier, enjoy the music of Forbes Road Frolic. The duo, Chuck Krepley and Gary Smith, will be playing 18th century traditional British tavern music for guests.

With costumes and authentic songs, the pair will transport visitors back in time to the fort’s most lively heyday. Programming will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Learn more at fortligonier.org.

SummerSounds

Between afternoon barbecues and evening fireworks, head to St. Clair Park for this July Fourth edition of the SummerSounds concert series. This week’s free entertainment is Elton Rohn, a true-to-life tribute to British singer-songwriter Elton John.

With decades of hits to draw from, Elton Rohn will get the whole park dancing to classic tunes. Preshow music by Derek Woods will begin at 6:15 p.m. The headliner will come on at 7 p.m. Find out more at summersounds.com.
