Here are 5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: June 27-29
June is wrapping up, and next week will be a short week for many. But there’s still lots going on all around Westmoreland County. Here are a few things you can do this weekend to close out the month.
Ligonier Valley Bluegrass Festival
Get ready for a full weekend of bluegrass at this year’s Ligonier Valley Bluegrass Festival. With an exciting lineup of artists for yet another year of fun and music, this festival is a can’t-miss experience.
Going on rain or shine, the festival permits camping for the weekend. Outside food and drink are not permitted, but plenty of eats will be available. This is a great opportunity to hang with the community and bond over great music and food.
The Ligonier Valley Bluegrass Festival will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Ligonier Township VFD No. 1, 44 Fire Hall Road, Ligonier. It will start at 6 p.m. Friday, then pick up Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday and the first act going on at 10 a.m. Sunday’s program starts with breakfast at 8 a.m. and church service at 10 a.m., and the music kicks back in at noon. ‘Cinderella: Youth Edition’
During a lovely summer weekend, check out this fairytale of a story at Geyer Performing Arts Center. This version of the story is perfect for kids of all ages, and the whole family will be enchanted by this tale of love, rags-to-riches and wonderful dancing.
Performances of “Cinderella: Youth Edition” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. All performances will be held at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St, Scottdale. For tickets and more information, visit geyerpac.com.
Inside Ligonier Valley Home Tour
It’s a beautiful time of year to get out and see some of the most interesting homes of the area. Whether it’s historic architecture or charming, cozy homes, this tour will show off the best of the Ligonier Valley.
Check-in will take place under the overhang of Janney Montgomery Scott Wealth Management (formerly Citizens Bank), 121 E. Main St., Ligonier. Check in from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for this self-guided tour. Participants have until 4 p.m. to complete their tour. No photographs are permitted during the house visits. Tickets are $55 day-of, and you will receive a map and booklet when you arrive for check-in.

Frankie Avalon
This one’s for the lovers of golden oldies. Avalon was a multiplatinum recording artist and teen idol. He was huge in the mid-20th century and known for his appearances in beach party films, as well as in “Grease” in the 1970s.
Avalon is still touring, and he’ll be coming to The Palace Theatre in Greensburg at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets will range from $52 to $102. The Palace Theatre is at 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. For tickets and more information, visit westmorelandculturaltrust.org.
SummerSounds
Take a trip to the South with this week’s SummerSounds free concert at St. Clair Park in Greensburg. Artist Denitia will integrate jazz, soul and country sounds — similar to Norah Jones and Kacey Musgraves — with ethereal sounds and deep lyrics that cover a number of relatable themes. Perfect for a summer night, this concert won’t miss.
Don’t forget to check out pre-show music at 6:15 p.m. from The Slightly Crooked String Band. Also don’t forget to check out the on-site food options and the free shuttle service from parking at Lynch Field. This Friday night concert is a great way to pass a summer evening.
