Here are 5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: June 6-8
Summer is finally in the air. Are you ready to get outside and rock? Or run? Or shop? Here are some events in Westmoreland that will help you celebrate the nice weather.
The return of SummerSounds
The SummerSounds free concert series is back for another season starting this week. Every Friday through August, the series will bring great jams to Greensburg and make those long summer nights even better.
This week’s kickoff show will feature The Seven Wonders, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band that will bring the group’s classic sound to the stage at St. Clair Park. They will start rocking at 7 p.m., and Riley Galloway will lead things off with preshow music at 6:15 p.m.
There is a free shuttle this season, so those who park at Lynch Field have a free way of getting to the show. Food options will also be available for purchase on-site. Learn more at summersounds.com.
‘Avenue Q’
This musical may remind you of “Sesame Street,” but it’s definitely for adults only. The Tony Award-winning musical will be coming to the Lamp Theatre this weekend (and next, in case you can’t make it).
Following a neighborhood of puppets as they find love, search for their purpose and deal with the difficulties of being a grownup, “Avenue Q” is raunchy, honest and hilarious. This production is from Split Stage Productions.
Shows will be held Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $25 each. To get yours, visit lamptheatre.org.
Mr. Rogers Family Days
Latrobe was the birthplace of children’s TV icon Fred Rogers, and the town will be spreading his messages of love and neighborliness this week with Mister Rogers Family Days, including events across town.
On Friday, the Latrobe Art Center will host a children’s cookie decorating event with Saint Vincent College from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Art Center is at 819 Ligonier St, Latrobe.
On Saturday, there will be a packed schedule of events, including appearances by Daniel Tiger and Mr. McFeely actor David Newell; arts and crafts activities; a climbing wall; a WQED Education Activity Tent; food vendors; and live entertainment, plus much more. Saturday’s events will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday will conclude the festivities with a free concert from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Legion Keener Park Band Shell, featuring Jerry B and the Bone Tones.

Trail festival, poker run
Help to support the Westmoreland Heritage Trail with this festival and poker run. Those who participate will bike 8 miles or walk/jog 4 miles. There are no first-place winners for pace, but along the way, each participant will stop at five designated areas and pick up a playing card. By the end, each person will have a full poker hand — and the best hands will win.
In addition, there will be a community festival with food, live music, raffles and more. The run will start, and the festival will be held, at the Export Community Pavilion, Community Park Drive, Export. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the run lasting from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the festival lasting until 2 p.m. Saturday.
Register day-of or preregister at westmorelandheritagetrail.com.
