It’s the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, and whether you’re proudly Irish or not, that’s a good enough reason to celebrate. Here are some things to do in Westmoreland — and don’t forget to wear green!

Art on Tap: St. Paddy’s Whiskey Bash

This month’s 21-plus night at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art is infusing a little luck of the Irish. The evening will be whiskey-themed, with four distinctive rye whiskeys from West Overton Distilling available for tasting. There will also be refreshments, music and a hands-on label-making art activity.

Also included is the opening of the exhibition “Surface Tension,” which includes works by members of Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and artists affiliated with Radiant Hall.

The event will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. Tickets are $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Get yours at thewestmoreland.org.

Spring Symphony

Spring has begun to bloom in our region, and the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra is ready with a program of light and bright selections in concert this weekend.

The program will include Brahms’ “Hungarian Dances,” Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E minor,” featuring the return of acclaimed violinist Chee-Yun, and Schumann’s “Symphony No. 1 ‘Spring.’ ”

The concert will be held at at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Tickets start at $23, and discounted student rush tickets are also available. Learn more and get your tickets at westmorelandculturaltrust.org.

Soup’s On!

We’re going to get a few days of chilly weather, so enjoy these last gasps of cozy food temperatures by trying different soups (and breads) in Ligonier this Saturday. Buy your ticket to “Soup’s On!” and you’ll get a ballot and wristband at check-in that will allow you to try a variety of delicious soups and vote for your favorites.

A map will mark the locations of different businesses giving out soup samples, so eat your fill and make sure to vote. Check-in will be held 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Town Hall Auditorium Lobby, 120 E. Main St., Ligonier. The event will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To learn more, visit business.ligonier.com.

St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt and Pub Crawl

Green Beacon Gallery will be holding its second annual Greensburg St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt and pub crawl this Saturday. This is a great chance to hang out, have fun and learn about local businesses.

Teams of two or more will be required to roam the neighborhood and complete challenges (with photographic evidence). Grab your friends, bring cash and prepare for wacky fun. BYOB pregaming will begin at the gallery at noon, and rules will be presented at 12:45 p.m. The game will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants must be 21 or older.

The scavenger hunt will take place Saturday starting at Green Beacon Gallery, 235 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. They suggest a $5 donation per participant. To learn more, visit greenbeacongallery.com.

Screaming Orphans at the Lamp Theatre

Talk about a perfect show for the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day. Screaming Orphans are a band of sisters from Donegal, Ireland, and they’ll play a super-fun set of contemporary pop music with a healthy dose of Celtic rock.

The chart-topping band will play a set of captivating songs at 8 p.m Friday at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $30. Learn more at lamptheatre.org.
