Strands of blue lights adorn windows as part of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s Winter Lights in 2024.

It’s chilly outside, but Westmoreland County is heating up this weekend with lots of performances, parties and experiences to light up these long nights. Don’t miss these events this weekend.

Winter wonderland

Kick off the season with this festive event at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg. They’re lighting the grounds with lovely and bright displays, and the celebration will be just as sparkling.

Included in the event are live performances, tasty bites, art activities and themed beverages from the cash bar. There will be a roasted marshmallow station, photo opportunities, timed games, an ice carving demonstration, face painting and more. Don’t forget to head into the museum and take a peek at “Winter Tales,” the new immersive art experience.

The event will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. Registration is free. Learn more at thewestmoreland.org.

‘Finding Nemo Jr.’

Based on the beloved 2003 Pixar film “Finding Nemo,” this musical will bring underwater magic to life. Follow Marlin, a neurotic father clownfish, as he searches throughout the sea for his son, Nemo. Along the way, you’ll meet delightful characters including the forgetful Dory and super cool sea turtle Crush. This show is scored by music from dynamic songwriting duo Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez (“Frozen”).

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday. Advance tickets are $15. Performances will be held at the Greensburg Civic and Garden Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. To learn more, visit gctheatre.org.

‘Wicked’ sing-along

Part 2 of “Wicked” will be out this month, and Part 1 became an instant blockbuster success when it was released in theaters last November. If you’ve spent the last year memorizing the soundtrack to the first movie, now’s your chance to show off your singing chops at this “Wicked” sing-along event.

Tickets for the movie showing are $10 each. The screening will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. To get tickets, visit geyerpac.com.

The Clarks benefit

Southwestern Pennsylvania legends The Clarks will head to the Palace Theatre in Greensburg on Saturday for a concert that benefits Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Laurel Region.

The rock band has been a force for several decades in the region, playing sold-out shows and cultivating a loyal fanbase with songs including “Penny on the Floor,” “Cigarette,” “Born Too Late” and many more. This year, they’ll be joined by special guest Jim Donovan and Sun King Warriors for this great show for a good cause.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Tickets range from $28 to $50. To get yours, visit westmorelandculturaltrust.org.

The Magical Mystery Doors

Why have a tribute band for only one artist when you can have one tribute band for three? In this case, Magical Mystery Doors combine and celebrate the music of legends The Beatles, The Doors and Led Zeppelin.

While you can expect to hear individual songs that will get you singing along, especially big fan favorites and timeless hits, you’ll also hear this band of flexible and talented musicians combine the music in unexpected ways to add a new dimension of freshness and interest to well-worn classics. They bring in the visual aspect with video presentations on screens and exciting lighting choices.

The show will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $45 each. Learn more at lamptheatre.org.
