Santa and Mrs. Claus make their appearance at Greensburg’s Holiday Parade atop a fire truck in 2022.

Before the Thanksgiving meal — and then the post-turkey nap — takes hold, you’ve got a free weekend to do something for you. Relax, grab yourself a treat and head to these events.

Greensburg Holiday Parade

Make a start to the holiday season with the Holiday Parade in Greensburg, a tradition that brings the community together to celebrate this special time of year.

The parade will take place Saturday, with a lineup time of 3 p.m. and a parade start time of 5 p.m. The parade route is from The Westmoreland Museum of American Art to City Hall along Main Street in Downtown Greensburg. Come out to watch all of the organizations and community members as they spread cheer and light.

To learn more about the event, check out the City of Greensburg Parks and Recreation Facebook page at facebook.com/gbgrepdept.

The Outlaws

This blast-from-the-past Southern rock band is bringing good old-fashioned music to The Palace Theatre this weekend. Known for their 1970s hits “Green Grass and High Tides” and “There Goes Another Love Song,” The Outlaws have been influential and dynamic for more than half a century in the music scene.

Even better, after decades of brotherhood on the road and in the studio, these musicians are still making new music and continuing to evolve while honoring their past legacy. The show will feature the Artimus Pyle Band.

The Outlaws will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Tickets range from $55 to $110. Check out westmorelandcultural trust.org for more information.

‘Oliver’ at the Geyer

A classic musical based on an even more classic novel, “Oliver” brings Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” to vivid life with unforgettable characters and an award-winning score. Even better, “Oliver” is the source material for a 1968 film, which won an Academy Award for best picture.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. This musical is fun for the whole family. Tickets are $20. Learn more at geyerpac.com.

Westmoreland Youth Symphony Orchestra concert

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s youth program has been working hard as the musicians develop their skills, and now it’s time to show off with a free concert Sunday night.

The youth orchestra will play a number of familiar pieces, from excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutrcracker” to selections by Brahms, Mozart and Leonard Bernstein. The different youth orchestra ensembles, including the Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, the String Ensemble and Wind Symphony will get their time in the spotlight.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center, 100 Harrison Ave., Greensburg. Admission is free and open to the public. Learn more about the youth orchestra at westmorelandsymphony.org.
