5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: Oct. 25-27
Sadly, spooky season is coming to a close. But don’t fret — the last weekend to get in one good scare before Halloween is coming right up. Here are some ways to get in the spirit.
Let’s do the Time Warp …
Fans of Rocky Horror will have several chances to see the show this weekend in Westmoreland. Just remember — it’s definitely for adults only.
The Lamp Theatre will present the live Rocky Horror Show, performed by Concord Theatricals. The Friday night show is sold out and the Saturday 8 p.m. and midnight performances are selling out fast. Tickets are $25. The Lamp Theatre is located at 222 Main St. in Irwin. Get tickets at lamptheatre.org.
The show will also be performed live at the Geyer Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and there will be a special midnight show Friday night. Those of you who love throwing toast and playing cards, don’t bring your own — prop bags will be sold at the box office.
The Geyer can be found at 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Get your tickets at geyerpac.com.
Fall Family Day
Put on your costume and head to Historic Hanna’s Town for a day of fun and history! Their Fall Family Fest will be a day full of crafts, trick-or-treating and other activities.
For the history buffs, they’ll have an 18th century military encampment and blacksmithing demonstrations. And for those who like their Halloween even spookier, they’ll offer cemetery tours as well.
The festival goes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Kids age 5 and younger enter for free, with $6 student admission, $10 adult admission and $8 senior admission.
Historic Hanna’s Town is located at 809 Forbes Trail Road, Greensburg. Find the details at westmorelandhistory.org.
Breast cancer fundraisers
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and two local businesses are partnering for an event. Wicks and Wax, along with Precious Jewelry Co., will hold the Pour for Pink and Chains of Hope fundraiser this Saturday.
Admission is free. Food, wine and local vendors will be present to make your day even better. Plus, more than 30 raffle baskets will be awarded, with proceeds going to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.
Participants can also purchase a seat in candle making and necklace making workshops.
The fundraiser will happen at the Wicks and Wax Studio, 124 S Main St., Greensburg. Learn more and register for worshops at facebook.com/wicksandwaxstudiogbg.
Harvest night
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art will host a 21+ evening of spooky thrills this Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., with their Art on Tap: Harvest Night. $15 registration ($12 for museum members) will pay your entrance to a dance party, along with access to the museum, “light bites” and one free drink. There will be a cash bar for anyone who wants more!
Don’t forget to wear your costume — prizes will be awarded for the best ones, and you wouldn’t want to miss the scary good photo opportunities.
Advance registration is encouraged and can be done at thewestmoreland.org. The museum is located at 221 N. Main St., Greensburg.
Trunk or Treat
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold a “Trunk or Treat” event Friday night. Instead of walking around a neighborhood to many houses, kids can gather in one small area and go from car to car to collect treats.
There will also be a fun house and a bonfire, complete with free s’mores. Coffin Bean & Co. and Lynn’s Franks will be on hand to sell extra refreshments.
The event will last from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the church, 501 Fairfield Drive, Greensburg. See more on the church’s Facebook page at facebook.com/goodshepherdgbg.
