It may be week one of the NFL season, but there’s plenty going on this weekend that doesn’t involve football. Here are some equally fun things to do.
New exhibit at The Westmoreland
Continuing their Year of Women Artists, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art will be opening two new exhibits this weekend. “The Art of Elizabeth Catlett from the Collection of Samella Lewis” celebrates a decades-long career of sculpting and printmaking from a groundbreaking artist who focused on the experiences of marginalized communities. “Brynn Hurlstone: Resonance” is an interactive experience from a multidisciplinary artist that addresses domestic violence.
A members-only opening of the two exhibits will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday with a Mexican-themed soiree full of bites, cocktails and entertainment. On Sunday, a public talk with guest curator Grace Hampton and artist Brynn Hurlstone will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Both events are free, with the Saturday event open to members and the Sunday event to the public at the museum, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. Learn more at thewestmoreland.org.

Beyond Purple at the Lamp Theatre
Why have a tribute to one band when you can combine several legends? Beyond Purple may be a Deep Purple tribute, but you’ll also hear them play songs by Whitesnake, Dio and Rainbow, all born out of the Deep Purple “family tree” but with unique legacies of their own.
The high-energy band with a top-notch lineup will deliver a set of songs spanning decades of classic music but holding true to the lasting legacies of these rock superstars. The show will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $32. Find more at lamptheatre.org.
