An arrest warrant was issued this week for a Herminie man accused in a December bank robbery in Allegheny County.
James Smith, 43, was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on a single count of bank robbery.
Authorities said in court filings that he took $604 from a Pleasant Hills Dollar Bank branch on Dec. 29. The circumstances of the incident were not detailed in court papers. Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reported at the time that the robbery happened at 2 p.m. and the suspect did not show or mention a weapon.
The bank is along Route 51 near what was once Century III Mall.
Smith is in custody at the Allegheny County Jail on state charges. Federal prosecutors recommend that he be detained on the indictment, according to court filings.
He previously served time in a state prison on a few 2002 and 2003 Westmoreland County robbery cases, according to online court records. Smith is awaiting a preliminary hearing in a retail theft case in North Huntingdon stemming from a Dec. 10 incident.
He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
