The Herminie Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and a Donegal restaurant were cited Monday for allegedly violating state liquor laws.

The VFW at 501 Church St., was cited for allegedly failing to maintain complete records covering the operation of the business from Oct. 27, 2017, to Oct. 29, 2019. The citation alleges a violation of the 1988 Local Option Small Games of Chance Act, which allows organizations to conduct specific small games of chance to raise money for “public interest purposes.”

Officials for the VFW could not be reached for comment.

The Out of the Fire Cafe at the Donegal Village Shoppes along Route 31 in Donegal Township, was cited for allegedly selling alcohol to a minor on Aug. 20, the state said.

A spokeswoman at the restaurant Monday declined to comment.

The charges against both establishments will be presented to an administrative law judge, who can fine the establishments up to $1,000 for minor offenses, and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses. The judge can require training for the licensee and can suspend or revoke its license, based on the severity of the charges.
