The Delmont Volunteer Fire Department is evacuating homes on White Oak Drive in Delmont because of a gas leak.

First-responders were called to the street because of flooding caused by a broken water main around 2:15 p.m. Sunday and discovered the gas leak, according to Westmoreland County 911.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the leaks, dispatchers said.

A People’s Gas crew is on the scene, but hadn’t reported back with details about the leak as of 3:20 p.m., according to company spokesman Barry Kukovich.

Responders decided to start evacuating homes just before 3 p.m.

It is unknown how many homes are being evacuated.
