Firefighters work at the scene of a house fire on Mt. Pleasant Road in East Huntingdon on Wednesday.

No one was hurt in a fire at an abandoned house Wednesday morning in East Huntingdon.

East Huntingdon Second Assistant Chief Chris Brinker said six people were squatting inside the two-story house and made it out safely. The house, on Mt. Pleasant Road, is just outside Scottdale and close to Kendi Park and the McClean Road intersection.

The blaze was reported around 7 a.m. and appeared to have started in the basement, Brinker said.

Flames spread up the basement steps and into a wall, he said.

Firefighters had it extinguished quickly. The cause is under investigation by a state police fire marshal.
