Two Avonmore people are accused of animal cruelty in connection with two dogs found in a “deplorable” recreational vehicle parked in Derry Township during below-freezing temperatures, according to court papers.

David Gailbreath, 39, and Lori Gailbreath, no age available, are both charged with animal cruelty and neglect.

Humane agents from All But Furgotten in North Huntingdon visited the RV on New Quarry Road at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 after the owners were escorted off of the property hours earlier by a state constable, according to court papers.

Humane agents heard two dogs “barking frantically” amid 27-degree temperatures inside the vehicle. Both animals — a pit bull mix and Chihuahua — were emaciated, had long nails and were thirsty, according to court papers.

The vehicle had no heat, electricity, sewage or running water, investigators said.

No court action has been scheduled for either suspect. They could not be reached.
