A Donora man was convicted of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend last year.

Following a three-day trial that ended Wednesday, a Westmoreland County jury found Travis Magash, 33, guilty of aggravated assault, strangulation and simple assault for his role in a violent attack against his girlfriend.

Danielle Rose Thompson, 25, told police that she and Magash argued at her home in Hunker last June 20, when he threw her on to a couch and repeatedly struck her in the head, face and mouth. Thompson, who was seven months pregnant at the time, was briefly able to free herself before Magash jumped on her and choked her until she was unconscious, prosecutors said.

According to court records, Magash carried Thompson to a bathtub and tried to revive her with water.

Assistant District Attorney Karen Patterson said Thompson’s unborn child was not injured in the attack.

She said prosecutors showed jurors more than 35 letters Magash sent Thompson from jail demanding she not testify against him at trial or to recant her allegations.

Patterson said Magash could receive a 10-year prison sentence. A sentencing hearing will be held in about three months before Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rita Hathaway.
