An Indiana County man standing on the berm of Toll Route 66 in Hempfield was hurt Tuesday when a passing commercial vehicle hit a piece of aluminum the man was trying to pick up.

State police said the driver did not stop.

The 35-year-old man was preparing at 3 p.m. to remove a 10-foot-long piece of aluminum screed from the right northbound lane near mile marker 10.7 when the truck hit the board, propelling it into the man’s leg. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment of what troopers described as non-life threatening injuries.

A witness could not provide any further identification of the truck other than it was a commercial vehicle, police said.
