An Indiana County man was killed Tuesday from injuries he received when his car crashed into a tractor-trailer Tuesday on Route 22 in Salem.

Trooper Chad Howell reported Matthew Notto, 45, of Kent died from his injuries at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville.

Howell said the crash occurred at 4:52 a.m. at the intersection of Route 819 and Route 22. The wreck closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for more than two hours.

Howell reported Notto’s 2012 Nissan Versa drove into the rear of a 2018 red Mack truck hauling a trailer.

“Upon troopers’ arrival, the driver of (the Nissan) was entrapped but alert. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Forbes Hospital where he later succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash,” Howell said.

The 50-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer complained of minor injuries, but did not require transport to a medical facility, police said.

Howell said the investigation is ongoing.
