A few people were hurt in a Saturday morning crash that closed a portion of Interstate 70 on the Belle Vernon-Speers Bridge at the border of Westmoreland and Washington counties, according to a Westmoreland 911 dispatcher.

The crash was reported around 6:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-70. The highway was reopened by 10 a.m.

Several injuries were reported. State police described it as a “serious crash.”

At least one person was taken by ambulance to a hospital and at least two others were flown by medical helicopter for treatment, the dispatcher said. Photos taken by firefighters with Rostraver Central Fire Department showed three vehicles appearing to be involved in the crash, all of which had heavy damage.

The Belle Vernon-Speers Bridge carries the highway over the Monongahela River. No other information was available from state police.
