Instagram video leads to arrests in alleged Jeannette alley assault

One male and three juveniles beat a man in a Jeannette alley on Super Bowl Sunday while an onlooker filmed the whole thing and posted it on Instagram, according to court papers.

Jeannette Police charged Larenzo Dayshawn Peddicord, 18, of Jeannette, with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.

Three unidentified juveniles — two males and one female — also were charged.

The man told police he had walked to the Dollar General on Clay Avenue to buy snacks at halftime on Super Bowl Sunday.

While in the store he accidentally hit Peddicord with his cart, the court affidavit said.

When the man left the store, Peddicord and a group of his companions followed him into a nearby alley, a witness told police.

The witness said that a female in the group threw a rock at the man, hitting him in the back of the head. The man swore at the girl, the witness told police.

The group started to argue with the man, until an unidentified male juvenile punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, the affidavit said.

Once the man was down, the male who punched him, along with Peddicord and two other juveniles, began kicking and punching him numerous times, according to the affidavit.

The man told police he lost his memory of the assault, but eventually realized he had a bloody head and a missing wallet.

Police did not disclose the man’s current condition.

The day after the assault, police found a video on Instagram. An onlooker had recorded the attack and posted it to the social media site, according to the affidavit.

The video has since been removed.

On Tuesday a witness came to the police department and described the assault to police, allowing them to identify the four assailants in the video, the affidavit said.

Peddicord was arraigned Friday and taken to Westmoreland County Jail on $15,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph R. DeMarchis is scheduled for Feb. 21.

The other three will be tried in juvenile court.
