Delayed construction is beginning at the intersection of Route 286 and Saltsburg Road in Murrysville, near the Plum border, according to Plum officials.

Canonsburg-based Olympus Energy paid for temporary traffic improvements last year as part of its Hermes fracking well pad project, built nearby on the Murrysville-Plum border off Logan’s Ferry Road.

This new work will make those improvements permanent, Murrysville Chief Administrator Michael Nestico said.

Drivers headed north and east on Golden Mile Highway now must wait at the traffic light to turn left onto Saltsburg Road. The light also controls Route 380 traffic continuing straight onto Golden Mile Highway.

During construction, the far-right northbound lane of Golden Mile Highway will close for roughly a month, and northbound traffic will no longer be able to make a left-hand turn onto Saltsburg Road.

They’ll have to continue north to Toohey Road and come back to the intersection on the southbound side, Plum officials said.

In addition, a barrier wall will be placed in the northbound lanes of Golden Mile Highway to ensure a safe work area for construction crews.

Other roadwork

Meanwhile, PennDOT is planning the following work on roads in Westmoreland County during the week beginning Monday, weather permitting:

• A pipe replacement is scheduled in Hempfield, on the outskirts of Jeannette, closing a section of Penn- Adamsburg Road, between Gratz Street and Julie Dean Lane. Traffic is being rerouted along Penn High Park Road, Baughman Avenue, Park Street, Pennsylvania Boulevard, Route 30 and Edna Road.

• Additional pipe replacements will take place on Route 819 (Armbrust Road) in Mt. Pleasant Township and Horseshoe Bend Road in Cook Township.

• Patching will take place on Route 366 in Salem and Hilty Road in Murrysville.

• Drainage repairs will take place on Charles Houck Road in Unity.

• Edge paving will take place on Route 31 (Summit Road) in Donegal Township and Water Street in East Huntingdon.

• Shoulder stabilization will take place on Summit Road in Donegal Township.

• Shoulder cutting will take place on various routes in East Huntingdon and South Huntingdon.

Crews will pick up litter, replace road signs and perform other tasks on various routes countywide.

Motorists should anticipate potential detours, lane restrictions and flaggers in work areas.

Residents can call PennDOT toll-free at 800-349-7623 to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.
