The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday confirmed it has launched an investigation into allegations that an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from an Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office in North Huntingdon.

Spokeswoman Melanie Jones said in a statement that the district attorney’s office “is aware of missing funds from the PA Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control Office in North Huntingdon Township. This is an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau.”

She declined to reveal details of the probe.

According to a state directory, a handful of agents, lawyers and staff work out of the Attorney General’s regional office in North Huntingdon on Route 30 that oversees cases and investigations in Allegheny, Bedford, Fayette, Greene, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The facility also serves as a base of operations for the Attorney General’s narcotics investigations task force, a clandestine lab enforcement unit and a regional strike force.

A spokesman for Attorney General Michelle Henry referred all questions about the allegations of missing funds and the ongoing investigation to the Westmoreland County district attorney.
