The owner of a boutique bakery in Irwin and borough police participated in a fundraiser with a caffeinated kick on Thursday.
Caroline Lewis, owner of the Cheesecake Caffe on Main Street, sponsored a cleverly-named “Lattes With Law Enforcement” three-hour event, where officers donned aprons over their police uniforms to make the special drinks with their namesakes.
It’s not every day one sees armed baristas hustling over commercial coffee makers, mixing unique ingredients to make designer drinks. Officers Cody Stanoszek, Tom Carnahan and Eric Ziska manned the flavored syrups and brewers while Chief Dan Wensel mingled with guests.
Lewis said she and her staff gave the officers a quick lesson on how to use the machines to make the tasty drinks, both hot and cold.
More than 200 people patronized the event on the warm evening, eating inside and on the patio, including borough council member Gail Macioce, parking enforcement officer Ralph DiBridge, and members of the Irwin Business and Professional Association.
A percentage of the sales from the event will be donated to the police department.
